Archive (noun): a collection of historical documents or records providing information about a place, institution, or group of people.

What does it really mean to "archive" Coil's live performance history? With the help of Brainwashed.com, I was able to put together a fairly comprehensible "Coil Live" database documenting their live tenure. But what good does that really do? Hours upon hours and hundreds of searches, I was able to build a sizeable collection of Coil performances. Looking around the internet, many are not available whatsoever. Back in the MySpace days, I messaged Peter Christopherson about officially including Coil in the LMA here on Archive.org, he seemed interested... but that's where the topic of conversation ended. It seems great people have endless aspirations, perhaps he planned his own archive or releases? Who knows? What I do know is that these recordings will CEASE TO EXIST without some archiving. This is a fact. It is easy for some to say- not yet- let's not release these yet- because... Hard drives fail and archivists pick up new hobbies, right now I am cleaning out my hard drive. I could delete these files, perhaps no one else even has some of these shows any more... I'm going to upload them instead. If they get taken down, so be it, they may CEASE TO EXIST. Archive.org is a non-profit and does not delete files on a whim. The site does not go down or discontinue in ways that many bands' personal websites do- Archive.org is the BEST place for these files to continue to exist. May they remain as a historical document of the most incredible musicians to ever live.
